DH Technical Grant Recipient Sena Ozkhurt Named Fortier Prize Finalist
Sena Ozkhurt, a media studies PhD student and a candidate in the DH Certificate program, recently presented her work-in-progress, "Algorithmic Masculinities: AI and Misinformation in Turkish and Macedonian-Language Online Communities," at DH2026, the 36th annual conference of the Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations, held July 27–31 in Daejeon, South Korea. Her travel was supported by a UVA DH Technical Travel Grant.
Sena was also named a finalist for ADHO's Paul Fortier Prize and received an ADHO Conference Bursary Award. While in Daejeon, she attended three workshops: "Translating Digital Humanities Methods: Approaches from the Programming Historian"; "Bringing Humanist Practices into AI: Establishing and Maintaining Sovereignty When Working with LLMs"; and the "Hands-On Workshop: Interactive Collation of Multiple Text Witnesses." Feedback from colleagues at the conference gave Sena clarity on her theoretical framework and multilingual data methods. She aims to complete the project by Spring 2027 as part of her DH Certificate portfolio.
Attending the ADHO Digital Humanities 2026 conference in Daejeon, South Korea, was a deeply encouraging experience. Presenting my work-in-progress, “Algorithmic Masculinities: AI and Misinformation in Turkish and Macedonian-Language Online Communities,” allowed me to share early insights from my comparative study of Türkiye’s Ekşi Sözlük and North Macedonia’s Macedonian Truth Forum.
The DH technical travel grants are offered each spring and designed to support DH Certificate students’ professional development by enhancing technical skills that will advance their scholarship.
